I know the Sun isn't a great source, but I see no reason to doubt it in this case. It's neither an extra-ordinary or controversial claim. The fact that the same story was reported by three, admittedly poor, papers would seem to lend credence to it.

OK, that's a little more credible. Here's my question: while the bubonic plague is indeed deadly and terror-inducing, it's not transmissible as an aerosol, or even via water - it must be physically introduced into bodily fluids (e.g., flea bite.) Wouldn't that make a pretty poor bio-weapon?
