Well lucky for us that we lack a roll of razor wire then.

I certainly understand (and agree) with your position... but you're right: at the age of 13, you shouldn't be worried about marriage at all, gay or otherwise.
i'm not worried as such. but i just dont think i'd want to undergo a marriage. dont know why.

"Undergo" a marriage?

You make it sound like surgery. Though, I've heard it can be just as painful at times.

I have no intention of ever getting married.

Here as soon as you've been with someone for 3 years your a defacto couple and have all the legal rights of a married couple so I see no point in going through a cerimony just for traditions sake.

Well, we all know of the three rings involved with a marriage: the engagement ring, the wedding ring, and the suffer-ring. *rimshot*

If marriage/some other permanent commitment is for you, you'll know it when the time has come and not before.

Really? So in your country if you stay with someone for 3 years and then dump her she gets half your stuff?

6 months here in Canada. It's somewhat of a moronic practice in the cases where both spouses have good jobs and decent assets of their own. Even if their is a divorce and one spouse is left on welfare, alimony should only last as long as it takes for the government to retrain and assist the spouse find a good job.

As for child support, there needs to be more rigiorous enforcement on how it's spent. It's meant for school supplies, clothes and food for the child not for the parent to go on a bender or buy a 3,000$ PC.

Really? Common-law marriages don't occur until years have passed over here. Damn straight about the child-support issue, Kendall. There needs to be better enforcement of timely payment, and overwatch to insure that the payee is actually putting that money toward child support.

Actually over here common law marriage varies wildly from state to state. Some don't recognize it at all unless granted by another state they were living in.

However in all cases there are a number of requirements including that the people hold themselves to be married to each other.

So if you shack up with your girlfriend for half a decade but always refer to her as "my girlfriend", don't file joint taxes/claim her as a dependent, or anything like that you aren't common law married anywhere.

Yeah. Although it is not inforced that much.
