Impossible. The 72nd were amalgamated with the 78th to form the Seaforth Highlanders thirty years before George became King. Wiki mentions that the 72nd lost their kilts when they went to India in 1782 and regained it when they returned, so that might be what you're thinking of. That was under George III.
