You know, that's another thing. Aside from the face that that a change in the number of planets in the Ceti Alpha system should be easy to spot, shouldn't Chekov have remembered that they'd left Khan in that system? Or, at least, someone could have done their homework and found this out?

Good point. How could he not have found it relevent enough to mention to his Captain.

Chekov needs to lay off the happy spores, man.

I always wondered what exactly could've made Ceti Alpha VI explode in the first place?

Maybe all of the combined stupidity in the future 'Trek series accumulated enough mass to emit anti-time particles, creating a temporal shockwave that resonated back and focused on the best part of the entire series, thus causing Ceti Alpha VI to explode...

Rumor has it that it was destroyed by a time traveling Romulan with a big planetary oil drill.

While we're on the topic of Ceti Alpha VI, how can a planet explode and go unnoticed? Praxis went boom a couple of movies later, and the shockwaves rattled ships on the other end of the sector; you'd think a sensor platform somewhere would have picked up something like a planetary explosion!

Well, it sure does not cast a good light on the Reliants science officer. He would and should at least look at the sensor readings when entering the system and count the "dark dots". :D

I don't blame the Reliant's crew that much for not noticing a planet was missing. Just why would they be counting the number of planets there? They already knew how many were there, and they had no reason to believe any of them had gone. Ergo they had no real reason to check.

Not if it was on the other side of the system.

Wouldnt it spread out into a ring like we have between Mars and Jupiter?
