European Superheroes

The discussion about the location of Gotham City in another thread got me wondering about this. It just recently dawned on me that I've never seen any European superheroes. To clarify, by this I mean a superhero created by and published in a European country. The closest thing I've ever seen to this was V from V for Vendetta, but even he was created by Americans (IIRC).

So, are there any native European superheroes? Or are they just an American phenomenon?

Oh, and before someone brings him up, Captain Euro doesn't count.

IIRC, Mega City One is on the east coast of the US, but the series itself is British.

Does the Doctor count?

The Doctor not so much. I wouldn't really class him as the typical superhero type.

Garth Ennis' Hellblazer was published by DC, an American company, but he is British as is the hero of the series, John Constantine. I'm not sure of the nationality of his Bloody Mary character, though the miniseries was likewise published by a DC imprint. Similarly, Neil Gaiman is British and published by DC, though I have no idea of the nationality of Morpheus of the Sandman series.

Well, there is Earth-311 in Marvel, but it is set in 1602 in England. But still marvel.

The Watchmen are a creation of the british Author Alan Moore. But they "work" in USA.

Maybe it is better to create an american Superhero when you want to sell because USA are the biggest market for Comics. Europe has his BD and Asia (Japan) the Manga.

There are some major differences: early in the war, Arnold was a loyal and capable commander for the colonies; and also, Arnold din't help you guys avoid a loss.
