Now that we're well into the month of Christmas, I've been trying to give my Deinonychus a festive hat to wear through the miracle of Paint. However, when I try to actually draw on the image, the colours come out a hell of a lot darker than they should be. Trying to paint a bright red hat results in what appears to be a hat made of dried blood. Despite screwing around with whatever controls I can find, I've not been able to figure out what's going on.
So, anyone know what's up?
Also, if anyone could add a hat to my AV I'd be very grateful.

It sounds like you are using a gif image. GIF files have a limit to the number of colours that can be present in the image (256). Save it as a JPG first and then try editing the JPG.

Hmm, unfortunately the file size is to big to use as an avatar (~30 when it should be 11). I'll have to fiddle around with it for a while.

On this page, I try to download the high-quality images, but can't tweak them in Paint. Anyone have any recommendations? Just go down to "Mosaic Tile", to download a sample and see if you can work with it.
Yes, I'm being silly. Still, those pictures are beautiful, and the large ones have lots of detail.

May be silly, but man I like those pictures, I'm gonna take em' and stitch them together to make one massive one, just for the hell of it.
