You should be able to do that by replying using the quote button in the top right of every post, rather than the "reply" button at the bottom of the thread.

Not a bad level of response from your first post - welcome to DITL. :)

I've always felt troubled by the visual esthetics of TOS because it seems so dated. For me, the most beautiful Trek ship is the refit Constitution (specifically with the STV / STVI interiors), and my preference would be to find some way to retcon TOS to make it look more futuristic and more compatible with the refit. (As Bernd Schneider pointed out, the TOS and refit versions have almost no shared features at all.) The new movie version isn't quite what I had envisioned, but I think it'll grow on me, and I feel enthusiastic about the movie.

Oh, I could, I'm just saying it would be easier if there was a method that let me insert the quotes into one post. But I could do it that way, there would just be a lot more posts and it would be a little messier.

Indeed! I'm quite surprised!

Thanks for the hearty welcome guys.

That's what he wants you to think. ;)

Welcome, LaughingCHeese. I like TOS because of the stories, myself. The effects aren't as bad as the stereotype, but are aging.

There's also a matter of context. Trek did this :

When it's contemporaries were doing this :

And even big budget movies were doing this :

Hell, only a decade or so before the average science fiction spaceship looked like this :

Or this :

The Constitution class was an absolute revolution in science fiction. Compared to the kinds of things that had gone before it was mindblowing original and vastly superior. And even now, over 40 years later, virtually every single design you see in Trek is some kind of variation on or refinement of the Connie.

And personally, I don't think there has ever been another sci fi spaceship design that feels as genuine and real as the Star Trek ones do.
