Notes

The spheres were first discovered by Humanity in 2151 when the NX-01 discovered the sphere they dubbed Sphere one whilst tracking a group of pirates who were using it as a base. Approximately 19 kilometres in diameter and at least a thousand years old, their exterior shell was constructed of a single alloy. Sensors had difficulty in piercing the shell. Each sphere was powered by seven fusion reactors, each one almost 12 kilometres in length. The spheres were contained within a cloaking barrier. [2] They emitted massive amounts of gravimetric energy, gradually creating a vast anomaly as part of the Guardians ambitious attempt to 'reconfigure' our space, gradually altering the physical laws so that the Guardians could survive in our universe. [3]

A second sphere was found near Tarquin's world shortly after the first was discovered; analysis of the two indicated that there were at least fifty such spheres [4] - although the Xindi would later indicate that there were at least 78 of them. [5] The 12th one discovered was 6.3 light years from the Triannon home planet. The sphere was considered to be a holy place by the Triannon species, created by their gods to prepare for their return - a theory largely rooted in the facts. [6] Each sphere was controlled by an artificial intelligence and equipped with redundant energy cores. [7] In February of 2154 the NX-1 was able to attack Sphere 41, a key node in the energy grid of the spheres, and cause a cascading failure throughout the network which destroying all of the spheres. [8]
