Yep. Type 1, formerly called "juvenile" diabetes, even though I only began exhibiting at the age of 34. I produce little to no insulin on my own.

It's funny: this article is the first thing I read when I woke up today. I'm hoping they can grow some new ACLs for my knees. Definately a major breakthrough, and a big scientific middle finger to the religion-dominated government.

Or God's way of telling the scientific community: "Here: stem cells! Sans contreversy! Eat your hearts out..." In any event, I think everyone, no matter what side of the issue you're on, can agree this is definitely a good thing.

The next question is practicability. A gentleman I know has a chronic, degenerative disease for which he is scheduled to undergo a treatment involving stimulated stem cells. Don't ask me the details, because I know this man only through a few other links of friends. However, he might not be able to undergo the treatment, because his 20% co-pay (that's 20% of his PPO discounted price, mind you) will be $180,000.

Yes, that's AFTER his excellent medical insurance and PPO discount. Hopefully, this new research will make the availability better and thus make such therapies more accessible. That is, after they can get it to stop causing cancer.

That's great news! I've always been for stem-cell research and strongly against hypocritical religious bigots trying to halt research on life-saving methods. And they call themselves pro-life. This will put a sock in their mouth.
