Don't sit on the toilet at Wal-Mart

Post by Angharrad »

Maryland man glued to Wal-Mart toilet seat
(CNN) -- Police in Maryland are on the hunt for the perpetrator of what appears to be an April Fools' Day prank that left a man glued to a toilet at a Wal-Mart store.
If caught, the jokester who doused the seat with glue at the Elkton Wal-Mart on March 31 could face second-degree assault charges, said Lt. Matthew Donnelly of the Elkton Police Department.
Police, along with the Singerly Fire Co. and the Cecil County paramedics, were called to the scene at about 7 p.m.
There, they found the 48-year-old victim, who called for help after realizing the sticky situation he was in when he tried -- and failed -- to stand up and leave the superstore's restroom, Donnelly said.
It took responders 15 minutes to remove the victim from the stall, but they were unable to disconnect the toilet seat from his body, Donnelly said.
Instead, the victim was taken to Union Hospital of Cecil County, where the seat was detached. He left with only minor injuries to his buttocks, Donnelly said.
Police do not suspect that the victim was specifically targeted, but that the incident was a random prank, Donnelly said. They have not received reports of glue-laden toilet seats since.

Sounds a lot like the guy that got glued to the toilet at Home Depot a few years ago. He sued Home Depot because he failed to get any help for a couple hours when someone knew he was in there and in need. IIRC the people didn't know what to do about it so they didn't do anything until finally someone called the paramedics.

Actually that seems like a valid law suit.

Wait... Home Depot? Don't they have shelves of stuff that can help? Remove the toilet seat, replace it with one from the shelves and send the guy to hospital. There may even be something get the glue off if they looked. Just saying.

Or... they could have called 911 from the very beginning.

Have you ever been to a Home Depot? Clerks that actually know what things do there are in short supply.

They would have called 911, but nobody knew the phone number.

That is true, which is why I go to Lowes. Seems the IQ over there is at least 10 points higher which means somewhere between my dog and a chimp.

I think Lowe's seems to have a better class of products, too. I gave up on Home Depot when I went looking for a strap wrench and nobody could help me.

That is true. I like their selection of wood too. Don't have to special order any of it. I made myself a little CD/book case for about $40, all from solid red oak wood.

Home Depot is really focused on contractors. That's why so many things are offered in bulk form and they tend to emphasize the mid range to low cost tools and equipment. In general contractors aren't going to need someone to help them figure out the tool or supply they need.

Lowes on the other hand appears to be more focused on the do-it-yourselfer. Consequently you find less stuff in bulk and a wider selection of tools at the mid and upper end. Individuals are much more likely to want the high quality materials like red oak, to cheaper plywood like a contractor might use.

It really comes down to their emphasis. Sadly the nearest Lowes is 20 minutes away. The nearest Home Depot is 3 minutes away.
