Lucky it wasn't me - I was never that nice. That's all I'm going to say.
There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

I don't think anyone will ever say anything to that kid again... and if they do, they too deserve what is coming to them.

Yeah, I hate when those kinds of things happen and then the bullied gets penalized for doing what should be done, it'll just make bullies continue doing what they do and never be stood up to.

A) That vid is hilarious.

B) How can they legally punish that kid (The one who was being bullied) at all? He was quite clearly acting in self defense, which I thaught was aloud?

Lol, watching the start of that I was like "You're going to hit that kid? The one who is about double your size? Really?" I love the way he basically just picked him up by the head and threw him into the ground - damn near broke his leg by the look of it.

If I were the big kid's parents I'd be telling him how proud I was of him. He stayed calm in the face of provocation, he even took the a punch straight to the face and still stood there - not sure but it looked like he was trying to reason with the other kid. Anyway, it was like FIVE punches from the little bastard before the big kid finally decided to do something, and then he smacked him down hard - and then he just walked away instead of carrying on whilst his opponent was down. I don't see any way you could respond better to that situation that he did.

I'd also seriously think about suing the school.

Generally depends on the school. Most schools I know have a so-called "Zero Tolerance" rule, which means any fighting of that nature is not allowed, including fighting back to my understanding. Bullying and fight rules are still as far as i know the purview of the individual school district/school governing body. At least here they are. (I think)

In this case, it's more like a "zero-tolerance excuse" in order to hide behind the letter of a hidebound rule rather than expose the administration.

@ GK - you are spot-on. The kid gave the attacker plenty of chances to leave off; stopped prosecuting the fight once he had successfully defended himself; and then went about his business once he felt sure that he was no longer in any danger. If it were my kid I definitely would have told him that he did the right thing, although I might have advised him to not take so many punches before reacting. As my father told me long, long ago: a real gentleman never starts a fight... but never lets the other guy finish it.

Most schools would rather charge the kids who are being bullied because they are less likely to argue the system. Bullies are often given free passes to behave however they want so that it doesn't have to go on the school's record and make them look bad.

Coming from the inside of it all, its amazing how much parents are lied to about damn near everything. Yet most of those parents are foolish enough to believe it all without a single bit of reason.

Ha, they tried that here for a while since BCSC is a particularly ill-favoured school in our local area. The student council and the parent teachers alliance went into overdrive protest over it.
