Spock Quoted in Texas Supreme Court Decision
Is there hope for Texas? In a ruling on an asbetos-related lawsuit, the written decision of the court quotes "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Re: Spock Quoted in Texas Supreme Court Decision
I'm not sure they were quoting Spock explicitly. It's a phrase that most people have heard of, even if they've never seen Trek.
"You've all been selected for this mission because you each have a special skill. Professor Hawking, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Wu-Tang Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis! Welcome to Operation MindFuck!"

Texas would probably just consider Spock another illegal alien.

Why? If his mother is U.S. citizen, he can legally apply for citizenship without much problem. His doctorate and lack of criminal record will make him a likely fast-tracked candidate.Nickswitz wrote:Mikey wrote:Texas would probably just consider Spock another illegal alien.

In America, probably. We're talking about Texas, though.

Ohh, zing!
However, it's fairly well known that he's (played by) a Jew, which could still be grounds for swinging in some parts of the Lone Star State.

From the decisionSionnach Glic wrote:I'm not sure they were quoting Spock explicitly. It's a phrase that most people have heard of, even if they've never seen Trek.
"propriately weighty principles guide our course. First, we recognize that police power draws from the credo that "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Second, while this maxim rings utilitarian and Dickensian (not to mention Vulcan21),"
Footnote 21
"See STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN (Paramount Pictures 1982). The film references several works of classic literature, none more prominently than A Tale of Two Cities. Spock gives Admiral Kirk an antique copy as a birthday present, and the film itself is bookended with the book's opening and closing passages. Most memorable, of course, is Spock's famous line from his moment of sacrifice: "Don't grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh . . ." to which Kirk replies, "the needs of the few.""
Seems clear to me.

I daresay if that was true, we'd have seen more action and less rhetoric by now...

He's got a Earthian certificate of birth. What's the Krypto-Birther's evidence?Mikey wrote:I daresay if that was true, we'd have seen more action and less rhetoric by now...

Obvious - nobody has ever seen the Secret Service allow him to be in the same room as a chunk of kryptonite, right?SolkaTruesilver wrote:He's got a Earthian certificate of birth.
