Woman drives with dead body for months in car. A former real estate agent drove with the dead body of a homeless woman in the passenger seat of her car. Police say the dead body was with the woman for approximately 10 months.
The grim discovery was made after the car was left partially blocking a driveway in Costa Mesa, California on Monday. Police were called to the scene. Officers noticed a foul smell coming from inside the vehicle.
They found a leg poking out from a pile of clothes. At first they thought the driver was in the vehicle. However, they learned that the clothes were used to conceal a body.
Officers found a box of baking soda which had been used to reduce the odor. "This person was somewhat used to the smell," Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Ed Everett said in a statement. The 57-year-old former real estate agent said she had been too afraid to call the police after she found the body of the woman.

They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,

That...is rather disturbing. If she was too scared to call the police, why on earth did she not get rid of the body at least? I mean seriously, how long was she planning to keep the corpse?

Did she find the body in the car, or did she move it there?

Why was she scared to call the police unless she had a hand in the death?

Well, when confronted with a situation that normally would have zero legal implications people can sometimes freak. For instance maybe the body was on or near the car. While normally that would make it nothing more than a crime scene she might have believed that it would some how implicate her. She freaks and stuffs the body in the car. Or it might have been an accident, she hits the person, kills them, but thinks that no one will believe its an accident and they'll charge her with murder.
None of which really explains why she chose to leave the body in her front seat and then drive around with it for months on end.

Yeah, because I know how bad dead things smell, we had a dead skunk in our van, and the smell was unbearable, and is just barely bearable now, and it's been three or four months. So I can only imagine what it would have smelled like for 10 months...Tyyr wrote:None of which really explains why she chose to leave the body in her front seat and then drive around with it for months on end.

Perhaps the smell reaches a peak in fouls odours after which they become more bearable, as more matter is processed by decaying?

That only happens after its been about six months to which there really isn't anything left of the body.shran wrote:Perhaps the smell reaches a peak in fouls odours after which they become more bearable, as more matter is processed by decaying?

Cosidering this corpse was in the car for at least 10 months, that could indeed be the case.

Yeah but the stench by then would have worked its way into every permeable surface in the car.

Not to mention into the woman and her clothing. You'd think someone would have noticed the stench of death upon her.
