My faith in humanity just dropped a whole peg

Seriously, what the hell is with this guy?
This is one of those things you come across and just have to blink a couple times and ask, "is this real?". In fact it is.
Guillermo Habacuc Vargas had 2 children catch this dog. He paid the kids for this. He then chained the dog and used the dog as "art". He told everyone not to feed this dog. The dog died in the gallery. He calls himself an artist. I call him an animal abuser. In that event, (in which the dog died) he was chosen to represent his country in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008″.
There is a petition to ban him from this event, which you can visit by clicking this link.
After reading that and digging around, I found this site with a little more information on the incident:
A Costa Rican artist found himself in hot water with the animal protection people in his home country after using a starving, sick street dog as part of an exposition in Managua, Nicaragua, in August. Guillermo "Habacuc" Vargas allegedly found the dog tied up on a street corner in a poor Nicaragua barrio and brought it to the showing. He tied the dog, according to furious animal lovers, in a corner of the salon where it died.
Here is another link about the incident as well, although it's in another language and I've been unable to translate it thus far.
There will always be cultural boundaries and different definitions of what is defined as "art", but I've always maintained that any sort of suffering is pointless. Especially when something like this was preventable.

That's not art. That's sick torture. Throw him into jail. And tie him up.

I say tie him down, alive, in front of a few other starving dogs, and just see what happens.

You know, even though this didn't happen in the States, this is the sort of thing that makes me wish that there was no clause in our Constitution against "cruel and unusual punishment."
I don't have a link to the story, but a relatively young adult here in the States was recently arrested for sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl. I will say that again. A 3-year-old girl. Maybe I'm a little biased being the father of a three-year-old girl, but I don't think so. A man like that should not only be put to death, but in my opinion, it should take him weeks to die, slowly, and a recording of him begging for a quicker death should be released to the family of that little girl.

I think public executions should come back. Charge people to see it live and put it on pay-per-view and give the profits to the family of the victim(s) of the crimes the person committed. Jail time is not much of a deterrent. Seeing someone hang in town, or guillotine or such... that is a deterrent.

You guys are still thinkg a little leniently. Hanging, guillotine, all too quick. I say bring back the rack, the wheel, the iron maiden. These beasts need a punishment that would make Torquemada say, "Wow - that's tough." Let's do these freaks what Henry Morgan did to the Panamanians.

Er, no. When the waster started urinating over the woman, he was shouting that it was a YouTube moment, and was been filmed doing it. He intended it to amuse the same target audience of sick freaks who get a hard-on watching internet and video clips (there was a video, showing executions from Iran and other places, released commercially a few years ago, to massive controversy) of executions. It would feed this behaviour rather than stop it.
And as reprehensible as his behaviour, and that of the "artist" is, executing them is hugely disproportionate.

I was not suggestingthat peeing on someon should be punished with a hanging... I just meant in general. Punishment should fit the crime (actually, be a little harsher than the crime), it is just the actual way the punishment is done that I feel should change.

You wanna know the precise time and place my faith in humanity was destroyed?
I was in Phnom Penh, reading a copy of the Phnom Penh Post. They were doing a series on child pornography, and for this particular article, they were taking a look at some of the shops around town that sold child porn. They interviewed one such shop owner, who agreed on the condition of anonymity. They asked him "how can you sell such filth?" And his response was "it's okay, because the children in the movies aren't Cambodian, they're Thai and Vietnamese."
That destroyed my faith in mankind, or at least my faith in any possibility of racial and ethnic harmony.
