Favorite Video Games: RPG
In the growing tradition of "Favorite X" threads, I think it's time for us to venture into video game territory. And so, we shall begin with the RPGs. In order to somewhat constrain the vast selection of games that could fall into this category, I'm going to limit the choices to pure RPG games, not MMOs, not RTS or turn based games with leveling, we'll get to those later.
I think we all know the rules for these, nominate and second, with a poll to come.
For myself, I have two to nominate from the golden SNES days, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG.

Oooh.
Chrono Trigger was great, and I'll second it, but I have to go with the obvious, and nominate Secret of Mana.
FF7 was amazing also. Haven't made it through 8 or 9 yet.

Re: Favorite Video Games: RPG
NES:
Final Fantasy: The original. This is the game that Square made, and called it Final Fantasy because they did not think they would have the money to make another. It succeeded, and the company was saved.
The Guardian Legend: It is a Zelda-style top-down game, where you engage various flying missions as a top-down shooter. You wander the levels, buying stuff, beating regular critters and minibosses getting items that have been left lying around, and when it is time to face a boss monster, your robot character transforms into a fighter, and you launch. The game was never advertised, and the box art for the United States never even hinted at what was inside. The password system was complex, but it at least had a check system in it, so you could write down the passcode (8 sets of four characters each) and then see if you wrote it down correctly. This allowed one game to be played by several people, and not worry about runnin out of memory. Your score also counts as your XP, your secondary weapon requires power chips (and the current number of power chips also affects how powerful your main gun is, leading to a fun trade-off), the power chips also count as currency, and the life bar means you can take some hits without dying. All in all a fun game.
SNES:
Final Fantasy 2: Fun game, where you start with a decently leveled character, but you are fighting for the bad guys. You go through, gather people, lose people, and the story just keeps getting bigger.
Final Fantasy 3 (or FF6 as the series went in Japan): This is the big one. Where you had multiple parties working simultaneously to solve logic puzzles (or defend a location). You have opera, you have a dinner party, you have various items that can boost your character's stats. You have ancient critters enslaved and drained of their magic to power the Evil Empire's war machines. And just when you think you've won everything, the world gets ruined.
All four of the above have good music too.

Yes. Sorry, the way you worded things had me uncertain, since you specifically said you nominated Secret of Mana, but only said you thought FF7 was amazing.

I'll second ES 4: Oblivion
I'd like to nominate KOTOR II: knights of the old republic and Mass Effect. They aren't your traditional RPG's but I'd still countthem.

Can't think of any to nominate; I'll probly post those later.

Does Mass Effect 2 still count as RPG? If so, I'll nominate it.
I also nominate Morrowind!

As much as I enjoy ME2... well yes it is an RPG. RPG-lite maybe but still an RPG.
