Arrest the Pope?

I think there's enough evidence out there to do so and I think he deserves it. What are your guys' thoughts?

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

He doesn't deserve prosecution any more than would the U.S. president if it were discovered that the attorney general was a pedophile. These are a couple of guys trying to shill their book, nothing more.

But the pope hid it. He was aiding the criminals.

I'm not condoning his actions or anything, but...it's the freaking pope. Who the hell is going to arrest him? Who would even have legal authority to?

The world court can and countries can ban him. How many popes became popes through murder? The fact that he is a pope doesn't mean he's a nice guy.

Yeah...good luck with that. Not trying to be cynical or sarcastic, just realistic. It's the pope, leader of the world's largest religion. Unless you have a video of him shooting people or something, no one is going to touch him. There's just too much power and influence there.

Agreed.

He could as easily say - truthfully, as far as it goes - that the matter is one internal to both the Catholic faith and the state of the Vatican, and that he further is handling the matter internally.

He's the head of state of a recognized country. You can't just arrest the guy.

It's a publicity stunt and a rather douchebag one at that.

Alright I know you can't like physically detain the pope :P But you can bar his entrance to your country if the law of that country feels he is a criminal. And as far as I'm seeing he is a criminal.

The pope's power is unfortunately not in his position. It's the ideal that he sits upon which gives him power. people will still listen to him because he is the catholic faith made manifest, regardless of whether hes there or 5000 miles away in the Vatican.

The Vatican is an independant state, of which the Pope is its head. He can't be arrested like that. Doing so would open up a whole barrel of problems.

Not that I'd particularly mind the Pope getting arrested, but I just don't see it happening. This is a PR stunt, nothing more.

However war could be declaired on the Vatican... ouch that would be a mess.

IIRC, the US actually has plans drawn up in case they ever need to invade the Vatican.
