FarScape Appreciation

Just thought there should be a thread for, IMO, the best science fiction show ever made.

I discovered it almost two years ago, and it quickly replaced Star Trek as my top favorite science fiction show. Moya and Pilot helped in that regard.

It is.

There are two versions of the DVDs. The regular version and the StarBurst. The StarBurst includes more special features, if you care about that stuff, and includes more episodes per package. And, they're cheaper.

It never caught me the way Trek did, but I must give it kudos for being so fearless. You really got the impression that the writers just decided to GO for it. I bet nobody ever said "god, you can't do THAT!" in a Farscape writer's meeting.

Yeah, they defiantely weren't afraid to cross any lines on that show. If only other sci-fi would take the sam risks smetimes.

Gotta throw my hat in on this one. I'm a huge Farscape fan. Tons of non-humanoid aliens, awesome action sequences, great special effects, hilarious dialogue, loads of character development... Still haven't seen the Peacekeeper Wars, though.

I really liked the show until the last season, then it got... weird. Lots of trippy episodes. Lots of stuff where you thought you whould have to be stoned to get it. It was like they were trying to hard and failing.

I guess that explains my appreciation of the show...

I never heard of this show. What season is it in and is it being shown in the US? From the way you guys describe it, I'm surprised I haven't seen it on Sci-Fi channel. Is this a new series?

Skarran, Sebaceans, Peacekeeper Wars, Chi'ang salvagers...........one of the greatest sci fi shows of all time, a visual feast, and at times, innovative beyond all other competitors, but a little esoteric and monty pythonesque at points, and thus inaccessible to new viewers unless they start at the start and continue from there, unstintingly

You definately MUST start at the beginning. Catch a random episode, and most people would furrow their brows, scratch their heads and move on.

Blackstar, it ran for four seasons 1999-2003 ON Sci-Fi channel (back when I still had cable). Then it was cancelled in favor of... I'm not sure precisely. I know the new BSG is badass and resource-intensive, and the SG shows take a lot of budget, but why they dropped this show is utterly beyond me. So they could move Ben Browder and Claudia Black to SG-1 for seasons 9-10, maybe?

I think it was more for the reason I said. Naturally there were the hard-core fans that loved the show, but I think it was getting too... "artsy". I think it was loosing a lot of it's casual fans as well as it's front office support. When it starts to feel like every other episode is basically an Alice in Wonderland episode, you are not long for this world.

I see. That was long before I started watching that channel. I may have to check it out.
