Well, not how I would have done it but to be fair it's hard to get it right since the designations are far from clear.

What I understand is that you have about three ships for every slot - for example Defiant, Vigilant and Gallant in the Tactical Escort slot and altough they look different they are basically the same ship just looking different.

To be honest I dont see why they are adding so many non-canon ships and so few canon ships. They have constitutions and mirandas but no excelsiors for example.

I think I would prefer far fewer shipclasses but then with each and every one filling an important gameplay-role. As I see it everyone will rush to the admiral ships as soon as possible with everything of a lower tier beeing useless. ( I am willing to bet that most people will fly a fleet escort class.....just saying)

Unfortunatley that will be the case if combat is the focus over roleplaying

It's an MMORPG, what do you think will happen. It'll be like WoW where the few RPers keep to a few servers and are refered to as fags by the legions of powergamers looking to shoot down the next crystalline entity or borg cube.

I have to say, Guild Wars managed to avoid that quite a bit. There were a lot of RPers when I played it.
