AP source: Census worker hanged with 'fed' on body
By DEVLIN BARRETT and JEFFREY McMURRAY (AP) - 40 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery. A law enforcement official says the word "fed" was scrawled on his chest.
The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky.
Investigators have said little about the case. A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, tells The Associated Press the word "fed" was written on the dead man's chest.
FBI spokesman David Beyer said the bureau is helping state police determine if Sparkman's death was the result of foul play, and if so, whether it was related to his census work.

Somewhat worrying.

If that bit about the word "Fed" is true, it makes one wonder how some Freeman-thinking backwoods hick mixed up a census worker with a federal investigator.

First thing that came to mind when I saw the "fed" printed on his chest, was Manson's "pig", "political piggy" and "Helter Skelter" at his murders... but that's just me...

See I was wondering if his liver was eaten with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
I never really thought about it, but in a number of ways census workers might actually have a dangerous job. Forget just hicks and whatnot, taking the census in the bad parts of New Jersey would probably be a good way to get yourself killed.

Aren't census workers usually volunteers?

I don't know of any incidents off the top of my head, but there sure as hell were parts of Trenton where I didn't go when I was selling insurance, quotas be damned.

Well, they aren't conscripted, but I think going door to door for the census is a good way to earn ~$14 an hour. Though I could see old people volunteering in nicer neighborhoods.

Sorry, I didn't mean volunteers in the monitary sense...
But you answered my question anyway.

Ditto here. I avoid the west side of Oahu (the Waianae coast) as if my life depended on it, because hey.........it just might.

Wait a minute... why'd you automatically think of Jersey? There are parts of Philly that are worse than ANY area in Jersey!

Oh don't sell Jersey short. Camden was regularly making headlines as being " the most dangerous city in the United States" or "Murder Capitol of the USA". Hence why I thought of it first.
Of course there are parts of Philly that are pretty dangerous too and, even though it's in Jersey, Camden is often thought of as a Philly suburb.

From what I read this may have nothing to do with him being a Cencus worker. At the moment its just a murder.

I agree; I think we should wait for more evidence to come out.
