While I appreciate that the James Webb will be great for astronomers I lament it being a purely IR instrument. Nothing's quite as impressive as Hubble's visible light, IR, UV composite images.

Honestly I have no idea. I do wonder because unless I'm mistaken it's a matter of instrumentation. The mirror and such are universal, its the actual cameras you use that determine the spectrum you view. I think.

Regardless, if we want to get serious about astronomy there's one perfect spot for a telescope, the darkside of the moon.

No such thing as the dark side of the moon, both sides see equal light, you may be thinking of the far side of the moon... or at the poles where light is very little.

Yes, the farside. Plenty of craters deep enough to place a telescope in that it can function most of the time except for when the sun is directly overhead.
