US Civil War Part 2
US Civil War Part 2
Alright so we've all heard of Alaska's secession party and many of us know of the crazy secessionists in Montana and those states there. And many in the deep south still can't wait for the south to rise again. But things are getting really bad in Texas.
Crazy Glenn Beck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU818pXKlvE - Though this was filmed sometime in fall 07, before Glenn went crazy about Obama and still had some credibility. But notice this is two years ago before all the stories currently on the news happened.
And more recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3W-gmwnWLs (And TyT has done more stories on Texas Secession meetings since) - Glenn Beck is here too. Its interesting how his view has changed in a year and ahalf.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R92mcTzWRw - breaks down the numbers
And I think we've all heard that Russia has preticted US will split apart. And technically Texas has the right to secede (or so they say)... but Alaska not so much.
So what are your all thoughts on it? I think its got no chance in hell happening but if health reform and green reform and some other reforms happen and Obama is elected a second term these movements could grow. And the larger these movements are the more likely terrorists attacks and militia attacks will be of happening.

The US is already in the midst of a civil war. Except this time it's being waged not with guns, but with slogans and ideology.

As proud as I am to be a Texan, and as confident as I am in our capabilities, us seceding is possibly the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
Once we leave, the US takes all of their tanks, planes and weapons.
Mexico annexes Texas.
The end.

Meh. The citizens of Texas alone probably outgun the Mexican army by a fair amount. ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Re: US Civil War Part 2
I don't see the US falling into any civil war anytime soon. For one, most people in the south have no plans or care to fight another war. Second, the military belongs to the Nation now and not separate States. Third, most of those around who cry about losing the Civil War are just pissy and looking for something to get mad about.

Re: US Civil War Part 2
I can imagine a second civil war sometime in the (fairly far) future for the US. But it will be fought along idealogical lines, not state lines.
Still, I find the notion rather unlikely for now. But if things keep getting worse....who knows?

Re: US Civil War Part 2
The thing is, who's going to fight it?
My family is strict southern blood. Yet none of us give a damn. My family is a military family. Which means like every other military family, our loyalty is to the United States as a whole. To me, a lot of this "New Civil War" talk is just bullshit.

Re: US Civil War Part 2
I could see splitting, but probably not involving war, at least not for a loooong time. For now if a whole state truely wanted things to be different they can pass a fair variety of laws.
Like the gun town USA stuff.
And in reality the split is mostly rural vs urban not state vs state. Even Texas has a bunch of counties that vote blue, and southern/eastern Californa votes Republican. So you'd have to have something like city states, which is even less practical.
The trouble would be if we do keep acting like no matter what you do to the economy there will always be plenty of great jobs, and there will be infinite money to pay for any government program...eventually.
If we go into a hyperinflation scenario and things are really bad big blocks may simply...seperate, possibly without a fight.
