Runnning off a flash drive

Okay so I recently brought a 64GB flash drive, I intend it to have all my important video and music on it along with other things and keep it with me all the time.
What I am wondering. Can I install programmes like MS Works, MYOB accounting, Photoshop on it and then run those programmes off the flashdrive on any computer I sit down at? I might also install some of my games onto it if I can.
Also if at a latter date I want to transfer those files onto a computer can I just copy and paste them from the flashdrive onto the computers memory and have them work right away? Would I need to install them and enter the CD keys again or would the simple copy/paste work?
I thought if I can so this I'll put all my programmes on the drive so I dont need to carry those CD's around with me when I start traveling latter this year.
If you can install it on the flashdrive will the preformance of the programmes/games be effected since they are bottle necked by the theoretical 4.5MB read time?
