What did you think of the Eddington character in DS9? I could never make up my mind whether I liked him or not. For what he was supposed to be, I'm not sure they picked the right actor to play him.

I liked him, thought it was about time we saw a character who chose his friends and home over country who was actually three dimensional.

I liked the idea of Eddington, but I thought the execution was a little lacking. They went overboard to try and make sure that everyone knew he was the "bad guy" in his dealings with Sisko, then turned around and tried to make him a sympathetic antagonist. He was paradoxical in that sense, and it left him looking like a rather empty character of convenience.

I just thought he was poorly played TBH.

I would have liked to develop him more as a character. Have him as a crew regular as much as possible. Mostly we saw him at odds with Sisko, so his Maquis roots weren't so shocking.

That's about my take on it to Mr Tea Lover. I can't help thinking that the character may have been better served by being played by a more handsome, dynamic guy, bringing a bit of excitement to the character of Eddington so that everyone gets to like him before realising he's a 'baddy'...then you're torn between cheering or booing him. No disrespect to the guy who played him but he was just a bit too 'everyman'.

Actually, if you scratched Michael Eddington all together, Thomas Riker would have been PERFECT for what they needed the character to do.

That's actually a great idea. I wonder if it was even thought of back in the day? Maybe it was mooted but our man Frakesy had enough of full-time Trek or didn't want to commit to anything long form. Having said that, he's always been a bit of a Trek whore so maybe not

The only problem is that Thomas Riker wouldn't have ahd the connection - familial and community-wise - to the Maquis that Eddington had.

Indeed. All in all, I think it was done well enougbh.

Your looking to quickly. Thomas Riker never mended fences with his father, and we all see how close a Riker can get to his comrads. I think that betrayal would have worked even better.

I still think that Eddington's more deeply-seated connections with the Maquis work better. Also, T. Riker wouldn't have gotten an inside position like Eddington - wouldn't he have been wanted for hijacking a starship?

I was assuming that if Riker was used instead of Eddington, they wouldn't have wasted him like they did.
