Birthers Not Fringe

For those who don't know the term Birthers, they are people who think Obama was not a citizen and therefore can not be president. Despite the fact that there's both a birth certificate and an article in the news paper claiming the child's birth from the date.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=249RKiCcCwg - Basically 28% of Republicans think Obama is not a US citizen. 30% aren't sure.
So combined that would make the Birthers a reasonably powerful organization inside the Republican Party.

And of course if Obama wasn't a citizen he'd be ejected from the office and Biden would be President. How does that benefit them again?

Clearly his parents gave birth to him in Kenya. And then they paid for a birth notice to be published in Hawaii, because they knew that if their son ever lived in America, and he went into politics, and if he succeeded so much that he ended up running for president, then that was the only way he would be eligible.
You have to admit they showed an amazing degree of forward planning.

1) before I read the OP, this title was up there with the most confusing I've seen on this or any forum.
2) Well, gee, it's too bad nobody checks a prospective candidate's bona fides before letting them run for office. Oh, wait...
(and remember that Bush and the GOP were in charge while Obama was running. If they knew Obama was an illegal candidate, it was awful nice of them to let a highly popular member of the party they're out to destroy into the Big Chair! Hell, who'd be more likely to check such things than they?)

Ah, so they're morons then. Good to know.
I guess the far-right realised that shrieking he was a socialist wasn't working, and opted for a different approach. I wonder what the next one will be.

Honestly, is the Republican Party actively trying to make itself look like a cult instead of a political party? The last 18 months, they've really been sliding down the "group credibility" scale pretty quickly towards the "Scientologists" label.

They're kind of in a bind on this, because it's their supporters, albeit a loony fringe of them mostly, that support it. When it was just a low level background sort of issue the Repubs could say something reassuring to their loony fringe ("I don't know the facts, but there's nothing wrong in asking questions. Keep it up!") without it making a splash with other voters.
Now it's getting more and more national attention they are stuck between looking like idiots in supporting it, however vaguely, or alienating that loony fringe. And the repubs don't have so many supporters that they can afford to be throwing them away, lol.

God, I'm a moderate Republican (I voted democrat this elecetion Palin scared the freaken hell out of me), and I think these people are insane. Heres my take on what the repubilican party should do, One get a clue, two LISTEN to the people who your trying to con into electing your arse, and three stop shooting yourselves in the damn foot.

Given that the parties are pretty much split down the middle in terms of supporters neither can.
As for the birthers thing well lets face it, probably half the country shouldn't be allowed to vote in the first place.

You're right about that, I think GK was just trying to justify why the GOP mainstream hasn't distanced itself from these people, or Steele, or Coulter, or...

Right again. It just seems that lately, the GOP has been accomodating all sorts of people who shouldn't be allowed to speak because they make their own party look like morons. You, for example, are both a Republican and an ostensibly intelligent, well-spoken individual. Aren't you embarassed to be associated, however unwittingly, with people like this?

I've stated before that I am. I've also stated that the current iteration of the party seems to have completely forgotten what it meant to be a Republican.
