Stitch and I are looking for a new motherboard and Processor for his computer, and we're wondering a something if anyone knows.

Would an Intel processor be compatible with an AMD motherboard?

And also, does anyone know any good motherboards/processors for a good price?

Here is the motherboard I found http://reviews.cnet.com/motherboards/in ... 62365.html

And here is the Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116072

Yes, they were cheap which is why I was looking at them especially.

Those two are compatible (both use socket LGA 775); Pentium dual-cores are good bargain CPU's - basically the same as full branded Core 2 Duo chips with a couple of things disabled and a bit less on-board cache memory. I have one in my laptop now (2.16 GHz - that's for each core) and it runs great. Just make sure you align the CPU the right way when you seat it in the socket -- but beware those heat sink/fan assemblies: they're a royal bitch to get on and off!

Thanks CPH. We probably won't mess with the heat sink/fan, so, other than that, it sounds good, we're replacing a 5-7 year old CPU s, this will be a good upgrade for us.

Now we just have to get the money, which Stitch should have in a month or 2, hopefully.

You will have to. The heat sink sits on top of the CPU, without it the CPU will melt. It's worth getting some thermal paste and putting it between the heat sink and the CPU, the CPU may come with some anyway. You will need to look at your memory. Typically a new motherboard/CPU will require new memory. Make sure you get the correct type.

We need new memory anyway. We only have DDR, nothing uses that anymore (at least nothing new).

As well as that our dad has a good amount of spare DDR2 RAM...

Looked around more, and found this one which I like, and it isn't too bad priced... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=1599
