Averted nuclear disaster in England?

Post by Lazar »

From the Telegraph:
More than 40,000 gallons of radioactive water leaked into the open when a 15ft crack appeared in a pipe leading to a cooling pond in the Sizewell A reactor in January 2007.

If the worker had not spotted it, the pool, which contained 5,000 spent uranium fuel rods, could have run dry, causing the rods to ignite which would have sparked a supercharged radioactive fire, it was claimed.

Despite the potential severity of the incident, no one has been fined or prosecuted.

HM Nuclear Installation Inspectorate, which compiled the report into the leak and found "significant risk that members of the public could have been harmed", only issued a safety directive to Magnox South, the site's operator.
"There was also a large horse in the room, taking up most of it."

hay, look the UK public opinion is about to go anti-nuclear....because we all know that even though this is a minor thing, and the reason the emplyee probably cought it was because a safety alarm went off, if we leave these plants in operation, we could expect to constantly be avoiding nuclear holocost by the skin of our teath every day.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Don't worry if England starts running out of power they will just import it from France like the rest of Europe... Hmmm I wonder where French power comes from... could it be, nuclear?
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I thought France was powered by rudeness?

No, they upgraded to arrogance powered fission generators in the late 90's. Why else do you think the rest of Europe's been letting them think they're actualy relevant any more?

Because its funny?

Did anyone else hear about France trying to build up its navy under the thought that they want to reclaim their rightful place in the world? I didn't know cheese required a navy and wine required a navy...

Am I the only one here that's of the mind to just let them have it? I'm willing to leave the Germans too it. I mean really, come on! Throw them a bone for effort. Besides, is there anyone left who wants to save them, yet again?

Well the last two times we saved their ass didn't get us anything so... sure, they can have it. German beer and French food combined into a single country, I think I can live with that.

Good then, its agreed. The Germans get France. England gets rid of having to pretend to get along with France. Everyone throws a party.

That good for everyone?

Works for me.

I'll draw up the paperwork.

Let me look up what that is, and I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Ah, wine. Don't worry, Napa valley has some excellent stuff.

As long as it's not any wine made in Britain, that's cool with me.

Yeah, but it's not Beaujolais unless its from Beaujolais.

Don't worry, TLH. The wine will still be made - it'll just be made by a nationalized company, after Germany buys it out for three times the actual value and then overpays into a worker's trust.
