Too Far. Just Way Too Far.

VASSALBORO, Maine - Fire investigators concluded that a fast-moving blaze that destroyed a topless coffee shop in Maine was deliberately set.

The state fire marshal's office made the arson determination Wednesday afternoon after investigators sifted through the rubble of the Grand View Coffee Shop in Vassalboro, north of Augusta. Officials aren't saying how or where the fire started.

The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. by an ambulance that happened to be driving past. It took about 50 firefighters from eight communities to douse it.

Owner Donald Crabtree escaped unharmed along with six others. He said the fire seemed suspicious, coming just hours after he appeared before the town's planning board.

"I don't even dare to say at this time," Crabtree said.

At the shop, waiters and waitresses without shirts served coffee and doughnuts. Crabtree had met Tuesday night with planning officials to discuss adding a disc jockey, expanding parking and extending the hours of operation.

Crabtree said he spent $277,000 buying and renovating the former motel. It wasn't insured, he said.

The shop's opening in February raised the ire of dozens of local residents. Someone recently called police to complain that a waitress was outside the business without a shirt. An ordinance was proposed to regulate nudity at local businesses.

While many people dropped by Wednesday morning to show support, it was clear that others were pleased about the fire, said Paul Crabtree, the owner's brother.

"It's sad to see people driving by and acting happy about it," he said.

Steve Cooper, of Vassalboro, stopped to peruse the damage while passing by on his motorcycle. He had never been in the shop, but said it was a shame the fire had put people out of work.

"I don't think the business was doing any harm," he said.

A waitress at the shop, Krista MacIntyre, said the job was the best she's ever had. She hopes the fire doesn't put the shop out of business.

"We should keep on going, get back up and make it an even bigger place," she said.

What. The. F*ck?

I'd wager money that an "offended" Christian did this.

Organized religion is poison, people! Don't drink it!

Well, seriously, in the list of possible culprits, who seems most likely here?

Because a woman's breasts, even though created by God, are not to be shown! Ever!

"And on the eighth day, God looked down, and was embarrassed at His shoddy workmanship, and lo, He did declare that no human genitalia should ever be exposed!"

What is it with breasts, anyway? They're technically not even genitalia.

Here's a thought: if you have a problem with a topless coffee shop - don't friggin' go in, moron.

The name of the shop = genius, BTW. "Grand View," indeed.

It depends on the breast size jsut how grand the view is. D cups = grand, C = pleasant, B = nice, A = quick glance

I'm sorry, but you all instantly went to "offended Christian", but it may have been an atheist in the community that was offended by it. Who's to say that atheists don't get offended by exposing someone's body.

Uh...yeah. See the thing is that Christians have a far longer track record in regard to being offended by nudity, stuff thats rooted in the faith of the various sects. Atheists don't have a unified belief system or even anything in common besides the lack of belief in deities. So yes, it could be an atheist but it's far more likely to be a believer or a pissed off BF/customer (not required to be separate) then an atheist.

I realize that, I was saying it could have been anyone, and actually, more likely it would be an extreme Muslim, as their track record is worse than Christians. I haven't heard of stories of Christians being pissy about nudity. But then again it may just be that I'm oblivious to a lot of news.

I'm with Nick on this one. Maybe a little proof of who did it before the condemnation begins.

I doubt that, the US is a predominantly Christian nation and the loony Muslims are largely concentrated in the Middle East.

The list of who could have done this is enormous. It could even be some stupid kid who likes burning things (like a recent arson in my area).

Hey, when you're compiling a list of suspects, you tend to start with the most likely.

If the building caught fire during a massive electrical storm, I'd suspect lightning until I ruled it out.

Rural town, check. Mostly white folks, check. Numerous people already protesting it's existence on "moral" grounds, check.

Highest probability is a Christian fundamentalist.

I'll keep watching this story to see if any new info gets released, but I'm betting on my theory.
