Okay, time to name some movies that you think are worth a watch. If someone here happened to be at home one night with nothing but the remote control and a subscription to Sky Movies to keep him amused, what movies would you advise him to watch?

I'll get the ball rolling.

I watched Dog Soldiers last night, and found it a great way to pass the time.
The movie is a horror(ish) film about a team of British soldiers who are on a training exercise in a forrest in Scotland. After hearing weird noises in the night, they come across a team of special-forces troops who have been butchered, with only one shell-shocked survivor who's of little help to them. The team soon realise what happened to the other troops when they're attacked by werewolves. After one of the troops is injured, they run across Megan, a zoologist studying the werewolves in the forrest. They retreat to an abandoned farm house, where they decide to hold out until sunrise.
I was expecting the movie to be rather crap, but it was actualy very good. The portrayl of the soldiers wasn't too bad, the monsters, although cheesy at some points, were fairly good, the fight scenes were well done and there was some good humour in it too. Also, there are a couple of unexpected plot twists along the way, which complete the story quite nicely.

Saw this on SciFi some time ago. Good movie. Same British guy who dies in every movie he makes.

I'll recommend Boondock Saints, Harrison Bergeron, and Equilibrium.

Could do a very very big post on this but I'll try and restrict myself.

The Train - A John Frankenheimer (my fave director) film, about an Nazi Colonel's attempt to remove works of art from Paris before it's retaken by the Allies, and the resistances efforts to stop him. Ironically, the Colonel, von Waldheim, is an admirerer of the paintings, and wants to posses them himself, whilst the leader of the resistance, Labiche, is reluctanct to try and stop him as he doesn't believe the paintings are worth the lives it will cost to save them. Less of a war film, more of a battle of wills between the two main characters. Great direction by Frankenheimer, and some brilliant dialogue.

I second the Boondock Saints recommendation. I also suggest Layer Cake with Daniel Craig and Colm Meany. Robert DeNiro's Ronin is another good movie. Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a fun movie and so is his follow up film, Snatch.

For Hong Kong goodness John Wu's Hard Boiled is outstanding.

Adding to the Hong Kong goodness from a different direction, I'd suggest Dragons Forever starring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yun Biao. Jackie plays a womanizing, somewhat corrupt mob lawyer hired to convince the owner of a fish farm to either drop her lawsuit against his factory owner client or sell her farm. Sounds like it could be a John Grisham novel, I know, but it's Jackie Chan, so rest assured that lots of bad guys get kicked in the face or beaten unconscious with improbable improvised weapons.

Speaking of Robert DeNiro, I'd have to suggest Heat. Al Pacino plays a troubled cop - was there any other kind in '90s movies? - chasing Robert DeNiro's professional thief. No piece of scenery escapes without toothmarks from all the chewy goodness, and Tom Sizemore gets shot.

Also, Grosse Point Blank. It's a romantic comedy with a body count. What more do I need to say?

speaking of the two Italians, I just saw Righteous Kill the other week and it is a great movie, DeNiro and Pacino are partners working for the NYPD working on a case where all these criminals who get off jail time are being killed by the same serial killer. They end up working with two other detectives and the whole thing just builds up with everyone thinking it's one of them (I won't tell you who) with a surprise ending for some (I actually called it, but my dad was blown away)
