It took me ages to realize it, but in Titan we see a species known as the Sti'ach. One of them is a counselor aboard titan. He is a ferocious predator, under a meter high, with blue fur, gigantic black eyes, large sharp teeth, a huge mouth, rounded ears, and spines down the back of the neck, described as looking like a vicious teddy bear, and often the subject of hugs from the crew. Great homage, if you ask me =)

Holy shit that's awsome! My god-daughter would love that! Well, she would if she were into trek and not hello kitty.

The character wasn't introduced by David Mack, was he? I just ask because in the Star Trek: Vanguard novel Reap The Whirlwind, he introduces us to Ensign Jeff Anderson of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, a slacker with an odd obsession with hockey. Also introduced is his friend, Ensign Brian O'Halloran, also of the SCE, who wasn't even supposed to be here today...
I guess if you're already writing Star Trek novels, it can't hurt to give a geeky shout out or two.

That would be: Meka Nalga Quista (in these instinces, the g is silent, at least according to the creators).
