Final Fantasy 7

So, I got a Playstation emulator running, and started this game (I only got to play a little bit of it on a friend's PS1 about 12 years ago); the graphics are somewhat dated, but the rendered backgrounds and cutscenes are already impressing me, even though I'm only a few minutes into the game.
Anyone else a fan of this game?

I've seen it around and on the net but for some reason I can't get into Japanese RPGs.

I played the original on NES, then 2 and 3 on SNES, so I'm already a fan of the franchise.
I'll agree that sometimes Japanese wackiness is off-putting, but the FF series is fairly serious for the most part.

Haven't played the game in years, but I loved it. Never could get my head round the combat system though. I just liked the world it was set in.

Played it a few years ago. Thought it was alright, but nothing great.

What's impressing me is how great it looks considering how old it is.

Final Fantasy games are a bit of enigma. It's somewhat unusual for its combination of the anime/manga style with western RPG. I never got the grip of it tbh.

One of the best linear RPG's ever made. Outstanding story that will stick with you for years. If you were going to play only ONE Final Fantasy game, or even any ONE Japanese RPG, this is the one I would say you must try, DESPITE better graphics or CGI or voiceover in newer games. (Frankly I consider full voiceover a liability, rather than an improvement, in RPG's, and am bummed that it will likely remain an unavoidable fixture. It ruined my ability to immerse in characters whatsoever when their personalities and voices are chosen ahead of time.)

I'm really starting to get into it after playing a few hours; unfortunately, my schedule is about to become rather busy, so I'll just have to be patient.

Can I ask what emulator you're running, I may have to give this a try

It's called ePSXe, which can be found
here, along with FF7.
