Jeez, the amount of bandwidth wasted on junk email. Cable/phone companies are spending untold millions on building and maintaining networks to keep up with the expansion of internet traffic, and how much of it is wasted on spam? That bandwidth could be used for better things - like sharing porn!
I do recall reading one interesting story somewhere about the spam business, which described how these messages only get a click through from one in a couple of
million people - but even though most people are smart enough to delete them, this can actually be profitable since the people behind the spam
don't pay any fees to send them due to the use of infected "spambot" user PCs.
Many of the countries where shady internet businesses are big, like Russia, don't bother to crack down even though they have some means to, since that would stop the flow of foreign money into their countries.
