I see billboards and signs all the time about Christ being our salvation, and so forth, so people expressing a different viewpoint shouldn't be a problem. But, somehow, it is to some people... :?

Doesn't really bother me. They're just stating their opinion, which is their right. As long as that opinion doesn't directly cause the harm of others.

Question: what is a bendi-bus?

Got to love it when the church people say things like this: "People don't like being preached at. Sometimes it does them good, but they still don't like it."

A bendy bus is a bus about twice as long as a normal bus. It has a concertina in the middle and a pivot around which it 'bends', allowing it to go around corners.

We have those here as well. How did that Christian Voice guy come up with "they're dangerous"? :?

Yeah saw this awhile back. Dawkins gave quite a bit of money to it.

Well, I guess if the middles breaks a lot, or the drivers are terrable.

Wait, how can those fit on British streets? They wouldn't even fit near my place.

Yes they would. Rutgers University uses some of them, and they take 'em right through downtown New Brunswick.

Anyway, as to the signage - these things, whether pro- or anti-religion, are like any other advertising. If you don't like the message, stop reading it, get on with your life, and go do something useful.

For my entire life I have been unable to figure out why any one person cares about any other's faith (or lack thereof.) There appear to be a lot of atheists on this board, and I am not one - SO FRIGGIN' WHAT?! Graham may freely express his own opinion, which sometimes accidentally comes across as that my own is wrong, but I don't think he actively tries to proselytize; nor do I, nor do any of our Christian members. Why any person of faith would go and spend money on a billboard to tell his message to strangers - or why a person without faith would spend money to preach his message - is beyond me. Quick note: if anyone does have money that he just can't figure out what to do with, let me know. I'll send you the address for donations to the "Save the Mikey" fund.

Wow, what a complete and total waste of money. Seriously, no religious person's going to see these signs and go "Holy shit! They're right!". Anyone the sign applies to won't give a damn about them.

That said, I've gotten fed up with seeing religious slogans plastered on public transit. I say they just ban religious messages of any kind from public transit completely.

Oh no, something else we all agree on: this sign shouldn't even be an issue.

I don't think they are a waste, actually. It's true they aren't going to make a believer change his or hear mind, but that's not really the point. It's an exercise in raising the profile of atheism/agnosticism, putting it in the public eye and mind. In that respect it's been a big success, because we are all talking about it.

In the UK, and I think elsewhere too, a lot of people don't give a lot of thought to religious issues. The idea of a campaign like this is to point out that we heathen atheists are here, and we are just normal people getting on with life, so what's the fuss about really?

Hm, hadn't thought of it that way.

Athiest are generally misunderstood. In the US they are apparently the least trusted group in the country. More so than muslims and gays.

Well, its one thing to not agree with someone about God. But to not believe at all is a huge deal. Its good to believe in something greater or grander then ones self. For someone to have nothing to hold to that standard is a little worry for many. From a faiths POV of course.

I personally wouldn't want to see that sign on public transportation, for the same reason that I would never subject anyone else to a sign espousing Judaism. My faith is of no concern to a bunch of strangers, and a stranger's beliefs (or lack thereof) are of no concern to me.
