The Doomsday Machine

After the USS Constellation blew up and "killed" that giant ice cream cone, what do you suppose Starfleet did with it's outer shell? I would have expected several technological advances could have come from studying it's remains, but we never heard anything else about it.

Thoughts?

It was TOS-era, so they were probably smart enough to study it, or at least try to mine the neutronium.

I've always wondered where the hell it really came from.

In the book Vendetta, I think Guinans sister found another one, and used it against the Borg. IIRC. I was like 13 when I read it.

Cool. I wonder if a Doomsday Machine could take on a Cube...

Doomsday Machine would win hands down. It could vaporize a cube within, like, 10 seconds with the Antiproton beam.

I considered the damage potential. It did moderate damage to the E-nil, but Cubes are a wee bit tougher than a Constitution. Unless it wasn't using full power against the Enterprise... Which, I suppose it couldn't have been - the damn thing eats planets.

You're right. The Doomsday Machine could obliterate a Cube, if it chose to.

And the Borg couldn't damage the DM either.

Right. In terms of armor, the DM is one of the most powerful ships in the 'Trek universe.

Well, the Borg aren't great at original thinking, so they might not figure that out before the DM blows up a few hundred Cubes...

It took Decker doing his suicide run into the thing for Kirk to think of it. I doubt they'd figure it out.

Wonder why the DM didn't just shoot? Could have saved itself and blown up the Constellation.

Its programming always seemed a bit... eccentric to me.

But could it take down the Russian forces in Stalingrad?
