McCain calls on Obama to suspend campaign

Post by Grundig »

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/24/ ... index.html

I can't vouch for the fairness of CNN's reporting, but there it is. I think this is move stupid and insulting.

I think this is showboating on McCain's part. He's trying to seem heroic or some stupid sh*t like that. By making this maneuver, he hopes Obama will be placed in an uncomfortable position - "do I go and 'help' in Washington, or do I stay on the campaign trail and risk looking like a candidate who's too self-involved to want to help his country." If Obama suspends his campaign, McCain wins points for beating him to the punch. If Obama doesn't, then I'm not sure what'll happen. But it looks like McCain is looking for a reset button or something.

Incredible. This is AFTER McCain looks at the toilet in which our economy sits and then says what a great job Bush did with the economy. I count this as nothing but irremediable grandstanding.

I agree! The question is, will it help him? I'm cynical enough to think that lots of people will buy it. What do you think?

I certainly hope that this is transparent enough, but who knows? We re-elected King George, after all.

Clever move, a lot of people will buy it.

The radio DJ on the rock station I listened to said he was impressed by the presidentialness of the move. When I heard about it I laughed seeing it as an excuse for McCain to postpone the debate.

I dont see why McCain would want to, Obama is a speech man not a debate man. I think McCain could probably win in a debate. Especially if it is an open forum where they can just go at each other rather than the BS the vice presidental debate has turned into.

But in a debate, McCain might be called on to actually explain is wavering from his previous standpoints; his claims that the Alaskan internal investigation against Palin were unfairly partisan even though Republicans on the investigating commission outnumbered Dems by more than 2:1; etc.

And Obama will be taken to task for his weak points. Both sides have bits they dont want aired in public, and McCain is better at exploiting them.

Do you have any examples of that in mind, Teaos?

Examples of what? Dirty lundry or McCan being better at exploiting weaknesses.

For the first Obama has that crazy preacher, inexperience and poor military knowledge.

As for exploiting weaknesses, well, thats just fact. Look at the campaign. McCain is ripping into Obama and he can do little in return even when he tries to.

For years, the Dems have affected "taking the high road" - now that it's time to fight fire with fire, they're out of practice. The Palin nom should've been nothing but an ammo dump for the Dems, but they've failed to exploit it.
