Apparently they knew it was going to happen as well.

The shooter apparently posted a clip on YouTube of him firing his guns, and warned "you will be next". He was taken for questioning by police about it, but they couldn't find any reason to keep him there. The next day he went into school with his gun.

Damn shame. I guess threatening to kill people qualifies as "no good reason to hold him."

Well it really isnt. People say shit like that all the time. Honestly I dont blaim the police.

In these situations everyone wants a scape goat.

What I want to know is what drove a teenage guy to bring a gun to school and start shooting people, and what we can do to stop other young people being driven to this.

Bullying, familial problems, disconnectedness, sociopathy... the possible causes are legion. What can we do? If there was an easy fix, we'd have been all over it - this sort of thing is becoming chronic in the US.

But do people ever try to really work out why the kids do it?

Or do they just go "Oh he listened to Heavy Metal music thats why he did it" No one bothers to search for the real reason, they attach what ever excuse is good for them and move on.

That had been the standard M.O., but more recently people have begun to try to watch out for red flags - kids who are withdrawn or disconnected, suffer from severe bullying, or with greater than normal interests in firearms or practical violence. Unfortunately, there is only so much that institutional watchdogs can do, and the real support structure is at home... and if the kid has a sh*t family life, there goes that.

From what I heard, he didn't actualy threaten to kill anyone exactly. I haven't actualy seen the clip itself, but as far as I know it was just scenes of him shooting his pistol and an ending with him aproaching the camera and saying "you're next". You can hardly arrest someone for that.

Of course, my impresison of the video in question is take purely from what I saw on the news, so maybe he did threaten to kill people on it, though I'd imagine the news'd have said it if he did. *shrug*

That's a fine line. I guess that video should have been taken more as a huge "I need some help, please!" than anything else.

The question that perhaps we should instead be asking is why others do not go on murdering sprees. I don't mean normal kids with bright futures and all that.

But in the US, oh I forget the statistic, but something like 90 either people or kids kill themselves every day. Probably many more try and fail, or have their suicide labeled a simple drug overdose or somesuch. Some may blame just themselves, but usually someone has been causing them pain.

I guess some may fear eternal damnation or something. But besides that, why leave alone?

Uh, because most kids are mentaly stable and don't want to kill their friends and themselves?
