While surfing Google Images for something completely unrelated, I stumbled across this map. It's pretty interesting to look at, and really shows how wealthy the US is.

Wow. That's impressively disturbing. I'm aware that, poor as I am, I'm still middle-class by the standards of a lot of countries (Bangladesh comes to mind).

As long as you aren't eating rats, you're still far above the poor in India.

That's what I mean; my existence in America is bottom-rung, but I'm waaaay better off than poor people in a number of other countries.

The shame is how many people in the US fail to understand that fact.

No doubt. Even middle-class folks here live like kings by the standards of third-world countries.

I wasn't super-surprised that Texas has a roughly equivalent GDP to Canada. We are about a third their size.

So, is there anything in Nevada other than desert?

There's a little resort town that might be profitable someday... called "Las Vegas" or something like that.

Large portions of Canada simply can't support a large population anyways. Mind you I'll trade you Texas for Quebec...

Carson City and Reno are pretty nice, too. But yeah, it's mostly desert and mountains. Lots of mountains.

Kendall - honestly, east Texas, where I live, is pretty damn nice country most of the year. During the summer, when it gets to around 43 C, it can be pretty awful, but you get used to it.

I think Kendall was reffering to the massive outbreak of fundamentalist loonies you have down there.

Mikey:

There's a lot less here than in the 'bible belt'.
