She couldnee tek no more captain
I see poor old James Doohan failed to make it into space for the third time yesterday when the 'ship' carrying his ashes blew up before they reached orbit. Still, these things will happen when you use a GCS for such tasks....

I know, it's a real shame isn't it? Bet it wouldn't have happened if Scotty had of been in charge ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

So, what happened to his remains? Were they lost in the explosion?

Taking into account the fact that the ship his remains were on exploded, I'd say there's a pretty good chance he went up with them.
A shame. If it was any other Trek engineer I'd call it the ultimate irony, but Scotty didn't deserve to go out by engine explosion.![Tears ](./images/smilies/cry.gif)

Was he that "into" his own role that he didn't opt for a military funeral and burial?

Just out of curiousity, what kind of ship were his remains on? Just a big rocket, or was there something else to it?

A damned shame for Mister Doohan, there.
He deserved far better.

Just shows how important Scotty really was. Couldn't even launch his remains into space without him being there.

Re: She couldnee tek no more captain
Am I the only one that finds this both ironic and funny?
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?
Re: She couldnee tek no more captain
I can see the irony, but I have a soft spot for the actor because he had Alzheimer's. You know, I just wish a person could rely on their death (and thereafter) to be dignified.
Why was he was offered a military burial?

Because he was an officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery in WWII and later served as an airborne artillery observer (piloting his own aircraft).schizo-hal wrote:I can see the irony, but I have a soft spot for the actor because he had Alzheimer's. I believe the ashes in space thing was his family's idea (they only sent a portion). As for why he didn't get an actual military burial, he's a Canadian Expat in Washington state. VAC should still pay for his burial but I'm not sure what went on.

I recall reading somewhere it was actually in his will.Cpl Kendall wrote: I believe the ashes in space thing was his family's idea (they only sent a portion).
