Strangest alien in sci-fi?

Post by Sionnach Glic »

Self-explanatory. What race of aliens in any sci-fi do you think are the weirdest, and why?

Do you mean physically, culturally, or what?

I'd go with the Pilot race from Farscape on both counts.

The Visitors in 'V' - cold blooded rodent eating humanoid reptiles, but with disguies so convincing, you can boff one without realising they have green skin and a forked tongue.

Fat aliens in Dr. Who were kinda strange. Same with the shadow aliens in that show.

In the game Acendency its full of odd aliens. The most humanoid is a 6 legged lizard for example :p Its got things like look like manta rays with a thousand legs, huge single celled organisms, things that change shape, silicon based life forms, nanobots run amonk, creatures with giant eyes. Lava pigs with like 19 sexes. Very imaginative.

You can pick just about anything from FarScape.

Yes, Pilots are strange, but nearly as strange as some of the other critters on there. You got Rygel's inmate in "Throne For a Loss". The octupus/squid-like thing of the alternate dimension in "Through the Looking Glass". The spider guy in "Suns and Lovers". The tree-like Br'Nee and bone-eating M'Lee in "Bone to be Wild". Noranti in Season 4. And, many, many more.

FarScape got really creative with their aliens at times.

The game I was talking about. Really cool storyline. Looks like a sequel is in the works, I hope they get it done :D

That's why I love that show. A lot of actually alien looking aliens. Toss in great plots, character development, great acting, and pretty kick-ass SFX, and it comes in as number 1 on my all-time favorite sci-fi series list.

I may have to check that show out after B5 and Heroes in my Crusade of TV Land.

Heroes is also awesome. I really didn't think they could pull off a realistic superhero series, but they did it extremely well.

Farscape is possibly the most underrated sci-fi series in history. I love it for the way they handle wacky (or implausible) sci-fi situations like time distortions or body-swapping, etc. And, the fact that while it's sometimes extremely funny, the plot is always dead serious, and handled accordingly.

Make it a priority, and if possible, for f*ck's sake, start at the beginning; there are a few weak episodes in the first season, but by season two, they're just right on the money, IMO.

I could never get into farscape, it was just to odd.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

The Adipose from Doctor Who. They're beings of fat.

I think you can look at Men In Black and pick out any bunch of weirdo aliens.
