Do we ever find out, canon or not, what happened to the cloaking device that was stolen by Kirk?

I don't believe so, no. Another thing TOS never got to follow up on.

It was never mentioned - it probably get taken apart and analysed six way from Sunday to figure out how it worked and how to counter it, then put into secure storage.

Well obviously the Federation followed up on that device - the USS Pegasus for example. They probablly reverse engineered the original cloaking device then tried to enahance it with the "phase cloak" item.

That's a plausable scenario. Of course, the existance of "quantum beacons" (or whatever the dammed hell they called that thing on Enterprise) in the 2150's begs the question "Why didn't the E-Nil have something like that in Balance of Terror?". God, those writers were f*cking stupid.

Enterprise was a product of people trying to capitalize on the franchise/liscence that is Star Trek. It was done to make money, not fit in with the other series. Personally, I think the better idea would have been "Star Trek - Excelsior" about the command of Captain Sulu, or someone else even. There's loads of videos on youtube.

The thing with the Cloaking Device though is that the Romulans were very secretive and so on, Starfleet was in its infancy, and cloaking device developoment would have seemed to hostile. They had alot on their plates anyway. And correct me if im wrong but Klingons in ENT didnt have cloaking devices, because they hadn't traded D7's for the technology yet? Something like that anyway.

I actually just mentioned that idea a few days ago in another thread. I really think that would've made for a better show, overall.

I agree with your spin on Enterprise; you may recall that they didn't even have "Star Trek" in the title for at least the first season - the whole thing was a clear case of network franchise abuse. I personally hope they all slip and fall down the absurdly long staircases in their luxurious mansions. Bastards.

well, bit of a guilty pleasure but despite its blatent shortcomings, I still found enterprise to be very entertaining, if nothing else. Though whoever came up with the idea was a prick.

I have a TNG novel by Michael Jan Friedman called Crossover that explains what happened to it. I'll try to be brief.
Spock is captured on a Romulan outer world planet called Constanthus, which is Romulan for "crossover" because of its position between Romulus and the Neutral Zone, during one of his Unificationist sessions. Fortunately, the Romulans don't know who they have, and the E-D along with Admiral Leonard McCoy are dispatched by Starfleet to negotiate for their release.
Meanwhile, Captain Scott is in the sector and intercepts the Priority One transmission, and formulates a plan. He heads for Starbase 178 which houses the Connie class U.S.S. Yorktown NCC-1717, now a museum, and arranges for a tour, during which, he sees the original cloaking device stolen from the Romulans by Kirk as part of the artifacts in the cargo bay. He then rewrites the engineering codes from memory and begins a small core overload. During the bridge tour, he also discovers the original bridge module for the Yorktown was damaged, and the Enterprise's was used during her refit. He speeds up the overload, causing a yellow alert. Everyone is escorted off the bridge to the awaiting shuttle. During the evacuation process, a 10 year old boy races back to the bridge excitedly ( are the Romulans attacking? I wanna see!). Scotty runs after the boy, and catches him in the transporter room. He transports the boy on the shuttle and sets to work of stealing the Yorktown. He uses the computer on board the E-D shuttle loaned to him to interface with the Connie computer so that all ship's functions are done with the shuttle's computer. He uses the antiquated cloaking device to slip undetected into Romulan territory.
