Favorite episodes - TOS

On to the series that started it all - some of the classics of TOS were truly great episodes. "The City on the Edge of Forever" is a classic not only of Trek, but of television in general. "Balance of Terror" was the first great episode of Trek to air, and one of the best. "The Doomsday Machine" and "A piece of the Action" were terrific and "The Trouble with Tribbles" is more lighthearted Trek and a lot of fun. Other episodes had their moments but don't reach this level.

Gotta agree, CPH. CotEoF is my favorite TOS ep of all time. I haven't seen it in a long time, wasn't Kirk's love interest named Edith?

As in the song "William Shatner" by Huntington, Long Island's The Scofflaws: "And he did Joan Collins in 1932."

(warning: the following is a live version, and includes a word not for the kiddies to hear:)

City on the Edge of Forever
Balance of Terror
The Trouble with Tribbles
The Doomsday Machine
For All the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky

That'd probably be my top 5.

For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky must be a contender for the best episode title in ST, maybe even in television history.....

IMHO, it really is a summation of all that was right with 'Trek.

Everyone seems to love "For the World is Hollow and I have Touched the Sky," but I have to confess I don't recall that episode. Since it's so popular, I'll try to see if I can download it (there's plenty of pirated Trek floating around). For now, could someone give me a brief summary?

There's this little site you may have heard of which does reviews of episodes.

Balance of Terror without question, it was tense as well as melancholy with the Romulan Commander choosing duty over his doubt and the lives of his crew.

I recall that episode vaguely now that I've read the recap, but don't remember it well. I'm sure I haven't seen it in quite some time.

It was one of the best examples of 'Trek pathos, while doing a great job with a hackneyed plot idea.

My TOS fav is Mirror Mirror. That and The Omega Glory.

Mirror Mirror had everybody we know and like...but slightly different, and the idea of the Mirror Universe opened up many possibilties, I liked it.

The Omega Glory I liked, I liked the possibilty that humans had found a
fountain of youth. And it showed just what a thing like that would do
to an otherwisse normal person. Of course, in the end, it was nothing of the sort. I thought it was a good view of the depths of the human mind.
