It's acclimation. When my daughter was young (she was verbal very early, and hasn't shut up since) and in that hard-to-understand stage you describe, I still knew to what she was referring because I was around while those references were developing. Before the age of 1, for example, I knew that "pea-ba" meant peanut butter, because I was around to witness the association of the term with the actual object.Teaos wrote:I quite often find young children hard to understand since they tend to run together words and not pronounce words properly. But then there parents can understand them perfectly.
THAT IS EXACTLY HOW SOUTHENDERS SPEAK.Teaos wrote:*Mental image of Reliant sitting on a street corner "spit shine your shoes gov'ner?"*
The only English movie accent which I had a hard time was (interestingly) American Brad Pitt's in Snatch. One which he obviously did lots of research on, and was well done, IMHO.Nutso wrote:I know I need subtitles when I watch "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels." Or "Trainspotting." I am American though.
What do you call Michael Caine's accent? I like his voice.Reliant121 wrote:THAT IS EXACTLY HOW SOUTHENDERS SPEAK.Teaos wrote:*Mental image of Reliant sitting on a street corner "spit shine your shoes gov'ner?"*
