There is an offical star fleet regulation that says the captain with tacticle superiority gain over all command.

It came up in the Voyager episode with Equinox.

I saw someone mention it as a posibility but not as canon, I tend to speed read if there is more than a page of posts.

I really hate to sound like a prick, its just funny that it keeps happening to me, not just here but elsewhere too but...
We know from Equinox 1 or 2 (can't remember which) that whichever Captain is in Command of the Tactically Superior Vessel assumes Command for the action.

Regulation 191, Article 14: In a combat situation involving more than one ship, command falls to the vessel with tactical superiority.
Yeah well I got the real quote so :P

Oh it's canon, I won't dispute that. I dispute whether it's wise, given who was involved.

Unfortunately, they can't write regulations with the clause "... except when Janeway is involved."

They could but she would probably get them for discrimination, throw in harassment if she asks them to stop and they don't... Maybe thats how she made Admiral so fast...

I suspect she made Admiral through use of a certain tongue technique.

Amen to that. Had that Regulation not got pulled out of somewhere that shall remain nameless, we would have to assume that the most senior captain (which I believe would be Ransom since Janeway just got promoted to Captain and assigned to Voyager before getting lost). Boy, would the series have turned out differently then, huh? What a relief to have those writers of regulations on your side, huh?
