And in truth none of the ships we currently have in inventory are ideal for that job. In order to make any kind of dent in piracy, in the invent we actually cared, we'd need a large number of small, long duration platforms that can just sit in the appropriate area. A Ticonderoga class missile cruiser is a tremendous waste of resources to hunt down guys in speed boats.

Well, the USCG has ships like that. We use them for SaR operations, Narcotics Interdiction Task Force and Maritime Studies deployments. However, as has been said. The US just doesn't care.
