Exactly. I remember when I first joined the Navy, I had to move to a new barracks as the old one was going to be remodeled. I had to carry my old 27" TV for a good mile. At the time I was physically fit to carry it without stopping but I was so tired by the time I got there that I nearly dropped it when I tried to set it down, and could barely lift it up when I opened the door.

But the funny thing is those TVs were much lighter than even TVs made in the 80's. My very first TV was a 19 or 20" TV that was encased in a metal/solid wood frame. It took four people to lift that thing.

I remember those TV's. As much furniture as appliance.

Yep. That one I had, we had to mess with the connection in the back to fix the picture and there was no remote. I had to juryrig the original NES to it. Funny considering I was 6 or 7 at the time. Eventually got rid of it as my Dad wanted a good TV for Superbowl XXV. The second Giants Superbowl win. We still ended up with a 27" TV encased in wood and glass.

We had that TV until around 2003 when my Dad made $6,000 off of a sale. He wanted to a Plasma TV. At the time they cost as much as a new car. So ended up getting a 56" rear projection TV. He hates that thing. He calls it an anchor and cannot wait for it to break. He gets mad everytime he goes to Walmart and sees a 40" TV for $500.

Yeah, my brother-in-law has a 56" rear-projection TV from way back when... and now also has a 64" LCD which he got currently for half of what he paid back then for the projection set.

And I'm guessing it's a lot smaller, too. ;)

Ironically enough, the larger TVs were easier, since more often than not people showed up with appropriate vehicles and there were more of them.

Here's a good example of the difference in quality between HD and SD TV. The following two pictures have been captured from DVD (1st pic) and BluRay (2nd pic). Each was captured on the same computer using the same software. The software reads directly from the DVD to there is no issue with how the signals are transmitted. The only difference is in the quality of the master image and the storage mechanism. It's also worth pointing out that the the size difference is down to the extra resolution available in the BluRay. It allows us to capture the images at a larger size.

On a similar note, some props really were not intended to be seen up close and in high resolution...

It's scratched uneven and some of the pins are bent. That picture was taken from Encounter at Farpoint so it's not like it has been used a lot by that point.

Oh, the bent pins are for picking up sub-siubspace distortions. And the scratches are sensor pits for enhanced resolution.

Hey, at least they modified it instead of just taking it off some chick's ponytail.

As I said I've never seen bluray. But one of my roommates once told me it is impossible to watch season one of TNG in bluray as datas makeup looks horrific.

Here's a cap of Data from season 1 BluRay:

Huh grow what he was saying the make up made him look like a zombie. Blotchy and uneven. That just looks shinny and unnatural... Which I guess is what they were going for.
