Sounds like a plan. I propose using Blue Peacock, just to be on the safe side.

I still like my idea for automated, solar-powered M2 turrets every 1,000 meters. With infrared sensors and simple recognition software, along with a loudspeaker that blast out warnings in Spanish if it detects anything.

Overkill? Perhaps, but it would save on manpower, and probably be cheaper than building a wall that would actually be useful.

Only downside is reloading and checking to make sure they haven't run out of ammo. And if the guys get desperate, a mad dash to the border could run though those rounds pretty quick.

With automated systems, they would only have to fire a round or two at a time. Possibly, they could be designed to fire one or two warning shots before actually opening up.

And, resupply would be a lot cheaper than having troops stationed out there all the time. When the thing gets low, it just transmits back to base requesting resupply. Also, you could have people monitoring them at all times (just like we already do with the cameras and drones) to make sure that the things don't blow away any kids. If it detects a target of valid size, the controllers would get a live video feed, and make a determination.

Harsh? Yes. Problem solved? More than likely.
