Probably not as much as it should - McCain is still the focus of the ticket, not her, and it's far too late for him to switch gears.

You could have fooled me. I know I'm across the pond and all, but I hear waaaay more about Palin than i do about McCain.

Well, there's more to tell. She's novel. But what I meant was that that ticket will be elected or defeated based more on McCain than on Palin.

All I know about either of them is that Palin is some sort of loonie who used to be a member of a seccesionist party and McCain is an older GWB.

The first of those is right, but not the second. McCain may have decided, for reasons that are beyond me, that pandering to the far right was necessary to get him elected. Nonetheless, this is the bloke who was hammering Bush left right and centre for years - he's got a lot of exceptionally good ideas, despite hiding them for the last year and a bit.

Oh, I know he used to be a "maverick" among the Republicans.
Note the use of the past tense. Regardless of what he thought about Bush, his policies seem no different to me.

As I said, for some obscure reason he's got it into his head that copy-catting Bush is necessary to get him elected. Personally I'd consider a two-decade track record of speaking his mind of greater import than a few months of toeing the party line.

You're right - his previous willingness to go across the aisle and to against the grain of the GOP were both refreshing and admirable, but his recent willingness to abandon those ideas scares me.

Abandon them? Or simply brush them under the carpet for the duration of the campaign? Only time will tell, just as only November will tell whether he's sacrificed the election in order to become electable to the far right.

Exactly. I, for one, am not willing to take that gamble.

I was willing to let him get away with a lot of shit during the election because its kind of expected. But he sold out way tp much and for the wrong reasons.

For me, If I was an American citizen, purely the fact that there have been TWO scandal claims in McCains camp, one that he was subject two i cannot remember, it was posted here, and the confirmed one with Palin El Pitbullio would make me very skeptical as to whether they can lead The United States Of America, the biggest super power on the planet, appropriately.

I think you're referring to the Keating savings and loan issue with which McCain was involved, and the Iran-Contra affair.
