The Rio Grande has stronger character shields than some of the main cast. Look at the way it took out that JH bug in "Treachery, Faith and the Great River".

GREAT: Jadzia's pointless death. God I hated that smug bitch.
GOOD: The Dominion war. Cool effects.
AVERAGE: Portrayal of alien cultures. The usual caricatures of entire species:greedy Ferengi, deceptive Romulans, glory obsessed Klingons and too kind for their own good humans.
BAD: Set up for the Dominion. When the Federation first enters the Gamma Quadrant the talk about Dominion is all hush hush myths and legends as if it is some shady criminal organization rather than a huge interstellar Empire the basic information of which should've been available in the nearest GQ equivalent of library.
Odo the security chief. The man doesn't "believe" in guns and makes his rounds in such regular intervals that Quark comments he can set his clock by him. No wonder crime is booming on DS9.
TERRIBLE: The Sacrifice of Angels. All of Federation sacrifice past and future is devalued with Sisko basically getting on his knees and praying to God. Prophets bless the Federation!
