I assume you're referring to the fact that they're all pointy and spiny and baroque and ornate. Well, there is a reason it's called Battlefleet GOTHIC.

And for the ships of WH40k in general, when compared to ships of other universes, I have two words... exterminatus array.

I so love the Imperium! If only I could build starfleet in such a way. Ahhhh... those soft... sweet dreams...

Yes, I was going to make that joke. "Gothic is for the architectural style of the ships"

Playing DoW and I now see how broken the Tau and Necron armies are. Once the Monolth is up and running there is no beating the Nec's. Also the Tau need only breed out Stealth suits and Gun drone squads to win any battle. GunDrones are hard to hit and they deal out alot of damage for their cost. The S-S's can all be given anti-tank weapons which leaves no one safe. I love the Tau, my own 40k army is Tau but they are just so badly broken in this game. Also the eldar suck! The imp guard are just so so. Orks and Space Marines are great. Chaos is desent enough. THe gray knights just don't preform well enough for me in game.

Agreed. The Tau and Necrons need some serious nerfing in the next expansion. I can beat off entire IG armoured groups with just a few squads of infantry from either! That is a ridiculous amount of over-powerment.

The tau wouldn't bother me so much if they put a limit on the number of "Suits" that the Tau can take in. Also they should have put the gun-drones on the infantry count. In about 5 minutes, maybe 10, I could build 80 stealth suits and 50 gun-drones. That is way to much fire power. Or they shouldn't have given the stealths the choice of the fusion blasters. That would leave only one in four of them with it since the sarge comes with one. As to the Necs well, the whole monolth is just to damn cheap to activate. It should be twice that cost. If you want to beat of a necron army then you need to use missiles. They move so slow that they have zero dodge % for damage. So they get hit by almost every shot you take.

I've found one thing the Monolith is very vulnerable to: Earthshaker spam. The thing moves so damn slowly, you can just run a trio of Basalisks into range, delay the monolith with any troops you have lying around, lob off some Earthshakers, and watch the fireworks. Nine times out of ten, I find that that solves the problem pretty well. It's also even more effective (obviously) if you have a Vindicare Assasin spotting for the Basalisks, so you can hit the Monolith before it can get anywhere near your troops.

That's how I always play with IG: tank and infantry spam, followed by pinpoint attacks against weakpoints with heavy units.
Rush the enemy with Guard squads and masses of Leman Russ tanks.
While all this is going on, roll up a couple of Basilisks, and nail any seriously fortified areas, or groups of troops/tanks with the Earthshaker shells.
After you've blown a hole through to the enemy base, load your Command Squad, some Kasrkins, and any other troops you have left into Chimaeras. Send these in with a Baneblade and any Russ tanks lying around through the breach in the enemy defences. You are now in the enemy base, wreacking mass havock with that beautiful super-heavy tank.
Most enemies will start pulling back from the front lines to their base to defend against this attack. This frees up any units from the initial attack that may have been bogged down due to enemy numbers. Rush these troops (and new units that you've built in your base and grouped up) after the withdrawing enemy, so you have them stuck between your heavy units and your expendable spam-troops.
Faced with a massive enemy force rampaging through their base, and more reinforcements coming in as fast as you can make them, most enemies will lose any sense of tactics or strategy as they attempt to drive you out of their base by spamming you with low-level units. By this time, they should be completely impotant against your army.
Now you just sit back, relax, and watch the Rightous forces of His Divine Majesty unleash a can of Holy Asswhooping upon the foolish heathens.

I like the strangle hold advance. Large amounts of missile platforms and slowly work my way in. Butchering form a distance. The Tau are great for this but the Space Marines are just as good since you can have 5 launchers for every squad.

Stranglehold tactics work pretty well, too. Bogging down the enemy forces, then slowly advancing inexorably towards his base tends to make most opponents become hilariously desperate in their tactics.

The basic SM squad is tough enough to hold up your enemy for a long time. Then just begin upgrading. Lots of heavy weapons just bitting into the enemy as they try to decide if they want to rush or just sit back and pray. The tau do well in this too. The Necs are just best when on the defense. They are slow but tough to crack. They can turn out endless troops for free and just keep sending them in to wear down the opponent.

The Necrons are virtualy unstoppable when they use their units in a combined-arms fashion. There's just no way of beating a smart player who knows how to use them.

Blast weapons can but only if you break up their formations well enough. If you fail then you're right, they'll just walk over you.
