Re: Federation Battlestar
I am talking about having multiple Battlestars. Unless there is a squadron somewhere of one? If there is then sorry for the confusion. However, having more then one doesn't mean they always have to travel together.

I was think in terms of battlestar plus escorts, as a synonym for BSG.Deepcrush wrote:I am talking about having multiple Battlestars. Unless there is a squadron somewhere of one?
Fair enough. Nonetheless, I stand by my point. However, having more then one doesn't mean they always have to travel together.

Ah, see I was thinking about having half a dozen Battlestars per squadron skipping the escorts.Captain Seafort wrote:I was think in terms of battlestar plus escorts, as a synonym for BSG.

Re: Federation Battlestar
Even if the weapons are good enough for the ship to be able to engage any likely threats, I think it would be worthwhile deploying them with escorts - this thing is going to be a real slug, and it would be useful to be able to send Defiants or Prommies off chasing any hostile ships that decide to bug out rather than trying to engage it.Deepcrush wrote:Ah, see I was thinking about having half a dozen Battlestars per squadron skipping the escorts.

Re: Federation Battlestar
A squadron of Defiants might not be to bad. They're small enough that they could just resupply from the Battlestar. Plus, they don't need full captains to command them.

Re: Federation Battlestar
That gives me an idea. The Battlestar could function as a mini starbase for smaller ships. Along the belly of the best could be docking ports for smaller ships (ie Defiant, Intrepid, Nova, Prommie, and a couple more)

Lets not get ahead of ourselves on this. Space will be tight as is so we shouldn't over pack the ship.

Battlestar Size
Length 1923
Beam 1410
Height 435
Decks 126
Defiant Size
Length 170.68
Beam 134.11
Height 30.1
Decks 4
Look at the comparative sizes. I don't think thats getting ahead of ourselves at all. We could have four Defients docked underneath (between the docking pylons) with ample room to spare.

Then where would we land? Plus you're putting a bunch of holes in the hull.

Re: Federation Battlestar
Hello!
For my first post upon this forum I give you what i have thought after reading this topic. It's a little synthesis with extrapolation.
For the power of pulse phaser, i have always guess that a pulse phaser from the Defiant has a power of 15 000 TW. For the Klingon Disruptor turret (an idea of Deep Crush i think) i have put the power of the Negh'var, if we want to see this Battlestar shoot enemies ship just like a Colonial Battlestar shoot a Basestar.
But, i am afraid that this "Project Adama" has too power, no?
Oh, and sorry for my english, but it's not my native language.

I think a Battlestar will be a ship with higher Cruise speed, but low Max speed, so I have choose to give her the speed of a Galaxy, and because you have talk to use few Warp Core & Shield Generator, i guess that 8 shield from the first Galaxy will be a good choice.Length 1923
Beam 1410
Height 435
Decks 126
Crew: 5000
Armement:
24 2xMark 18 Disruptor (8 back, 8 belly, 8 prow) Total 4 920 000tw (205 000 by turret)
4 rapid fire front (1000 QT)
48 turet with 2xPulse phaser (1 440 000 Tw, 30 000 by turret ) & 2 photon pulser (4800 PT)
40 Torp tube port side, 40 torp tube starboard. Burst Type 3, 500 torpedo by tube (40 000 PT)
Weapon Range 1500
Defense:
8 Galaxy Class Deflector Shield= 21 600 000tj
Double Hull, SIF,Duranium Tritanium,
2*5m d'ablativ armor (150 440 = 7522Mt)
Propulsion:
Quad nacelle Warp Drive
Quad impulse drive
Warp 9.6 for limited time
Maneuverability: 500
Overall Strenght: 67310.692

Re: Federation Battlestar
High cruise speed with a low max speed. A good idea, with the quad engine design vs mass.
We did go with klingon style weapons just for the "blowing enemies out of the sky" approach. We feel it is the best form of communication between the Federation (Sisko) and anyone else.

Thank you!
And thank you to think the high cruise speed with low max speed is a good idea
.
The cruise speed depends of the era of the ship, maybe a Warp 7 or 8?

Re: Federation Battlestar
Welcome to the forum
The timeframe is "modern" (i.e. after Nemesis still in the geneverse). I don't think the Federation would have the tech base to construct this project at any other point in time. So, the speed standard of the time would be the Soverign, Prometheus, and Intrepid classes (as the "hotrods")
Maybe 9.5 ???

Re: Federation Battlestar
Thank you!
I agree with you for the era, a Battlestar can't be created in TOS and the Federation can't feel the need of a Battlestar before the battle of Wolf 359.
And ships like the Dominion Dreadnought, the Scimitar & the Narada show that a Sovereign can't be enough.
But for the cruise speed, the Defiant has a cruise of Warp 6, when Voyager & Enterprise cruise at Warp 8.
Maybe do you want to said a Maximum cruise speed of Warp 9.5?
In any case, the ship is useful, to transport 4 Defiant, who can't run at Warp 9.5 more than 12 hours.

Re: Federation Battlestar
Deep and I are still debating that. I've never seen the Battlestar as a "Defiant Carrier". I was of the opinion that she could function as a mobile starbase insofar as resupplying smaller ships, and as such could have docking ports along the belly. Deep disagrees.
While a "Defiant Carrier" may not nessessarily be a bad idea to rapidly deploy those ships to hotspots, IMO A Battlestar would be the wrong ship for the job.
