Oh, so what exactly do people want to be commanding officers, they don't go on away missions, they are in the most danger of anyone on the ship (because they are randomly at the most open spot of the ship) and they don't get anything in return for running a ship,
I would rather be a cadet in a starbase than a captain of a battleship.

Well, you get a comfy chair, bigger quarters, and a nice office.

And the whole crew is your bitch.

Until you have a coup and they kill you, but that doesn't happen very often,

In the case of double hulls, i seem to remember in one of the instances with the Borg Cutting Beam (perhaps their 1st appearance, or early in BoBW) the computer references "outer hull breach ..{pause, ship rocks, etc.}..Inner Hull Breach" or something like that.

Most ships have a double hull. They're often spaced to allow in order allow repair to one without effecting the other.

So then there is a double hull, so the windows won't effect the strength of the hull really, not much at least.

Umm, not what I mean. What I mean is there is a space between the internal wall that you see from the inside and the hull that you see on the outside. Though that space is often only a few inchs. That would have no effect for or against the windows debate.

Wait - Nick, you're proposing having quarters OUTSIDE the inner hull? That would mean there are ship's systems outside the inner hull, and kind of defeat the purpose.

but if there's an inner hall wouldn't that mean that it's the same thickness as the exterior hull, therefore making the windows not nearly as important as were making them sound.
That said, the torps still blow through a good deal of hull when they hit non-windowed areas.
So the windows don't really matter much.

And that's not exactly what I'm saying mikey, I'm saying that there are the crew quarters are outside the inner hull, and inside are the important things.

No, the inner hull and outer hull are on the same wall.

Yeah, to be effective in increasing structural resistance, they'd have to be next to each other - like the armor hull and pressure hull of a sub.

But if the inner hull was as strong as the outer just without windows wouldn't it be more structurally sound?

Don't at least some subs have the ballast tanks and batteries and such between the two hulls? Added protection and such?

They share the same windows.
